LAVA is a new contemporary arts festival set in the heart of Northern NSW’s caldera, Murwillumbah and surrounding villages. Created for the curious and the adventurous, LAVA invites you to see this place in a new light. Through exhibitions, performances, open studios, sound and ideas that spill into streets, halls, and hidden corners.

THIS PLACE IS MAGENTIC

JUNE 26—28, 2026

LAVA builds on the legacy of the Murwillumbah Arts Trail, reimagined for a new chapter. It keeps what matters at its core, while expanding the program through contemporary practices, new formats, and a broader creative vision.

This year introduces a new Commissioned Artists Program, supporting the development of ambitious, experimental works created right here in the Tweed. These projects sit alongside open studios, exhibitions, and performances, shaping a festival that feels both grounded and forward-looking.
